Wah, S.C American Proclamation urging the Chinese population in Tientsin to remain calm: lettered ‘by Order of the Guard of the American Troops in the South East Quarter, July 22, 1900.’ Lithographic Chinese proclamation with a short pigeon English translation, printed on local paper. Composed by the Chinese scholar S.C. Wah, Chinese interpreter to the USMC, and written on behalf of the US Marines occupying part of the South East Quarter of Tientsin (Foreign Settlements) after the city had fallen to the International troops of the Eight Nation Alliance.
A rare printed proclamation issued by USMC troops in occupation of Tientsin, after the battle of Tientsin, July 13-14 1900. The proclamation urges the population to keep calm and by hanging this proclamation on their houses, they accepted the protection of the USMC.
