Additional Notes This copy was formerly owned by Sir Charles Lowther, 3rd Baronet (English, 1803–1894), followed by his son, George Lowther. This is a customized edition with “Charles Lowther” embossed on the cover. Most lithograph illustrations are paintings of “Principal Chiefs” by the artist Charles Bird King, who had traveled to Washington, D.C. as a delegate to negotiate treaties with the federal government. Author Thomas L. M’Kenney (McKenney) was the United States War Department U.S. Superintendent of Indian Trade.
