Additional Information | This copy was formerly owned by Sir Charles Lowther, 3rd Baronet (English, 1803–1894), followed by his son, George Lowther. This is a customized edition with “Charles Lowther” embossed on the cover. Most lithograph illustrations are paintings of “Principal Chiefs” by the artist Charles Bird King, who had traveled to Washington, D.C. as a delegate to negotiate treaties with the federal government. Author Thomas L. M’Kenney (McKenney) was the United States War Department U.S. Superintendent of Indian Trade. |
Condition
- minimal red rot with chips and cracking to leather, generally tight binding, cracked and loose hinges, page toning and minor foxing, edge wear, loss of gilt, creases to tissue guards, and bowing; “George Lowther” written in graphite to front endpaper.
