Caroline Augusta Lord was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a highly exhibited and award winning painter known for her representations of interior scenes and female portraits. Lord studied at the Cincinnati Academy of Fine Arts before traveling to Paris where she studied at the Académie Julian and Académie Delécluse. Her work was widely exhibited at the Paris Salons between 1892 and 1895. Upon returning to the United States in 1892 she moved to New York to study at the Art Students League with Kenyon Cox (1856 – 1919). In 1893, Lord received a bronze medal at the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. She was a long time member of the Cincinnati Women’s Art Club and, for many decades, a teacher at the Cincinnati Art Academy. Much of her work is housed and exhibited in the Cincinnati Art Museum.
