Haku Maki was a highly innovative and accomplished Japanese relief printmaker, applying mixed media printing techniques to his concentration of reimagined and rearranged Chinese characters. His prints often have a three-dimensional quality, derived from an embossing technique he pioneered. The public collections holding his prints today, include but not limited to, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Modern Art (NYC).
