Item Details

Kaylie McIntosh
Influence, 2020
Acrylic painting on canvas
Signed to the lower right

Kaylie McIntosh is a student at Dixie Heights High School and is interested in several artistic mediums, ranging from visual art, photography, and digital art, to instrumental performance art and to design. She has been creating and performing since childhood, and will likely continue to be a focus into her future. Cello performance, social and political sciences, graphic design, and realism art are all among her potential future studies.

When describing this work, she writes ‘This still life of red wine, rosé, and champagne is intended to grasp a form of realism in a visual and emotional way. The title of the work, “Influence,” refers to alcohol and the power it holds. Traditionally, reflections and highlights on glass are what viewers are drawn to in a still life. Reflections affect what we see with our eyes that make objects look real in artwork, but could be interpreted as what someone would make of themselves after being victim to the influence. Social constructs tend to glorify alcohol, but it is one of the most damaging habits that can take over our lives and destroy it, in a first or second hand manner. First glance at “influence” you would see a still life, but what exactly is in those glasses?’
