Matthew Briede is a student at Dixie Heights High School and hopes to study architecture at the University of Cincinnati. He believes everything has potential beauty and aspires to bring his creative ideas and vision into the world by opening an architectural firm.

When describing this painting, he writes, ‘This abstract intends to capture the essence of the last ray of light after the sun has set on the Mojave dessert, to look the last little bit of light peaking over the mountains to the West in the eyes, to provoke the feelings of rage and passion that the desert climate embodies, but also its natural serenity and rugged beauty as the ending of one day brings about the beginning of another. This painting is the peace at the end of the day in one of the worlds harshest, but most beautiful landscapes.’
