Based in California, Michael Manning is especially known for his Abstract Expressionistic digital works that he often makes with his fingers, the Fresh Paint program in Windows 8, and the Microsoft store. He received his BFA in Film at New York University, and specialized in animation, then received his MBA at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Throughout his career, he has become interested in the aesthetics and outdated functions of early Internet. Some of his more popular works are Microsoft Store Paintings and his Phone Arts series, which are digital abstractions that he pained on iPhones and at the locations of the retail stores that the series are named after. More recently, he has become known for his monumental paintings that are first composed as JPEGs, printed on canvases, then brushed with acrylic to provide a clear texture. Manning currently lives in Los Angeles, where he continues to work as a pioneer of digital art.
