Al Qöyawayma is a Hopi sculpture artist who is known for his ability to perfectly blend heritage and modernism through art. He was raised in San Fernando Valley before earning a masters degree in engineering at the University of Southern California. Inspired by family members and a profound appreciation for his Hopi culture and heritage, Qöyawayma created art which blends modern design elements of minimalistic style with traditional Hopi cultural elements and motifs. His work seeks to create a balance between the cultural heritage and modern expression.Qöyawayma works have been exhibited at the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of the American Indian and most notably in the International Space Station aboard Space Shuttle mission STS-113.
