Peter Keil Mixed Media Painting, 1962

Item Details

Peter Robert Keil (German, born 1942)
Untitled (abstract figure), 1962
Acrylic painting over graphite drawing on paper
Signed and dated to the lower right

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan MirĂ³. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
