Buckner was one of the most accomplished Florida Highwaymen painters. After his father’s passing in the ninth grade, Buckner dropped out of school to help support his family. He became a talented musician and played piano, guitar, bass, and saxophone for many years. One day, he and his brother encountered Harold Newton painting in Gifford. Afterward both brothers trained under Alfred “Beanie” Backus, founder of the Florida Highwaymen. Ever resourceful and a natural go-getter, Buckner sold his paintings door-to-door. He also established his own lawn service business in his later years. Buckner’s works are highly-collected.
