After serving in war, Annus studied art and fresco at Stieglitz Central School of Technical Drawing and Art Studio of Seidenberg. He gained an apprenticeship in an artist’s workshop at the Academy of Fine Arts. By 1918, he was assigned a teaching post in Liepaja and produced theater scenery for local houses. During the 1920s, Annus traveled and exhibited through Europe. The 1930s finds the artist teaching again at the Latvian Academy of Art. He traveled to New York and was appointed as Visual Arts Director at the Bureau of Culture of the Latvian Association of America. He continued to teach and exhibit internationally.
