Reginald Grooms was a painter, watercolorist, lithographer and teacher. His students include many prominent and listed Cincinnati artists. The son of a wood engraver, Grooms took up watercolors and oils as a childhood hobby. He studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and in 1923 he went to Paris to study painting at the Académie Julian. While in Paris he exhibited in the Spring Salons of both 1924 and 1925. In 1925, Grooms returned to Cincinnati to teach at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the University of Cincinnati School of Applied Arts. Grooms had numerous solo exhibitions throughout his life including at the Closson Gallery, Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati Art Club, Charles Morgan Gallery in New York, and University of Kansas Museum.

- notable toning to paper and discoloration to painting; frame has been repainted with some irregularities particularly to the liner.
