Stanley Twardowicz (American, 1917-2008) is most known for his influential work as a photographer and abstract painter during the 50’s and 60’s. He received his training at Meinzinger Art School in Detroit, Michigan and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. He became an instructor at The Ohio State University alongside Roy Lichtenstein for a brief period before becoming a regular of the New York City art scene of the early 1950’s. He was heavily influenced by the abstract expressionists and was very popular among his contemporaries, most notably Franz Klein and Jack Kerouac. His work is represented in numerous collections including Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C., Museum of Modern Art, NY, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C.
