Suzanne Ramié Atelier Madoura Glazed Earthenware Bowl, Mid-20th Century

Item Details

Suzanne and Georges Ramié founded Madoura Pottery in the town of Vallauris along the French Riviera in 1938. Employing a wood-burning kiln, the pottery designed by Suzanne incorporated ancient Roman technology with a modern aesthetic. The atelier became world-renowned in 1948 when Picasso was provided studio space, utilizing an electric kiln to create hundreds of pieces of ceramics. This relationship would continue until 1971, just a few years before the artist’s death.
