Item Details

Wictor Korecki (Polish, 1890-1980)
Untitled (rural winter landscape), mid 20th century
Oil painting on canvas
Signed to the lower left

Trained at the Drawing School Muraszki in Kiev, Wictor Korecki moved to Warsaw in 1921 where he opened his studio. He exhibited frequently at the Zacheta Fine Arts Association in Warsaw participating in both solo and group exhibitions. The Warsaw uprising of 1944, in which the Polish underground resistance led a movement to liberate Warsaw from German occupation, resulted in the burning of the city and the loss of the majority of Korecki’s pieces. The artist was held in a work camp at Leipzig for the duration of the war but returned to Poland in 1946, settling in Milanówek where he spent the rest of his life painting the luminous rural landscapes surrounding him. Korecki exhibited these works with Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in London and is held today in a number of private collections.
