Born in Glasgow in 1850, Tom Robertson studied at the Glasgow School of Art and then at the Academie Julian in Paris under Benjamin Constant. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and North Africa and was a recipient of a Gold Medal at the Munich Exhibition, an Honorary Mention at the Paris Salon in 1904 and a Gold Medal in Nantes in 1910. Today his work can be found in the Towner Collection as well as in a number of private collections.

- minor inpainting throughout composition; accretion and yellowing to pigments; discolorations to liner; nicks, chips, and wear to frame.
