While serving in Italy during World War II, surrounded by the beauty of the Italian landscape and the terrors of war, Weinstein found intention to document his environment with photography. After the war, he returned to the Bronx, New York and found work at Reuben’s Studio of Color photography studio. The studio was housed in the basement of the owner. During this time, Weinstein developed his skills as a photographer and printer. By 1969, he acquired the studio from the owner, moved the studio to Hawthorne, New York, and renamed it Color Group. The studio found success in film processing and enlargements for advertising companies. Weinstein also exhibited his work during this time.
