Cincinnati Museum Center's Lunch & Private Tour

Item Details

Up to four guests will enjoy lunch with CMC’s President & CEO Elizabeth Pierce and a CMC Curator of Your Choice before taking a private behind-the-scenes tour of our Geier Collections & Research Center.

The Geier Center is easily recognized by the life-sized family of woolly mammoths at the front of the building. In September 2001, CMC consolidated collections storage and research activities into the 70,000 square foot facility. For the first time, all natural history collections and history artifacts are housed in a single museum-quality environment. Open only by appointment or through one of the scheduled tours, the Geier Center houses CMC’s archaeology collections, invertebrate and vertebrate fossil collection, all zoology collections, history artifacts and fine arts. The facility includes laboratories for working on paleontology, archaeology and zoology collections, curatorial and registration offices and the Science Library.

Additional Information Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is a multi-museum complex and the home of more than 3 million objects and specimens. Nowhere else can someone see real dinosaurs, explore 1850s Cincinnati and work in a kid-sized diner—all under one roof. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages to learn more about our world through science; regional history; and educational, engaging and meaningful experiences. Open 363 days a year, we served 1.8 million guests in 2019. Through our collections, we create and facilitate new knowledge in history and science. Housed in newly restored Union Terminal, CMC is the largest cultural attraction in the region. Nationally, it ranks among the Top 20 most-visited museums in the country. Opened in 1990, CMC at Union Terminal includes the Cincinnati History Museum, Cincinnati History Library & Archives, Museum of Natural History & Science, and Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater. The Duke Energy Children’s Museum moved into CMC in 1997. We also operate two off-site locations. The Geier Collections & Research Center houses outstanding collections in archaeology, history, paleontology, and zoology. At the Richard and Lucile Durrell Edge of Appalachia Preserve, we partner with The Ohio Nature Conservancy to steward 20,000 acres of private, protected natural areas in Adams County. In 2020, CMC is celebrating its 200-year legacy of discovery and wonder. Our history begins in 1820, with the opening of the forerunner to the Museum of Natural History & Science. In 1831, the organization that became the Cincinnati History Museum/Library & Archives was established. These two legacy institutions came together in 1985, announcing that Union Terminal, an Art Deco treasure and National Historic Landmark, would be their new home. In 2018, we finished a 2½-year restoration of the iconic building—the first full structural renovation in its 85-year history.
