Charles Wysocki was born in Detroit Michigan in 1928 to polish parents. Wysocki studied art at his highs cool ‘Cass Techinical Highschool’ and worked in local art studios until the 1950’s when he was drafted by the US military. His service however allowed him to attend the Art Center School in Los Angeles under the G.I. Bill, where he was trained as a commercial illustrator. The artist’s interest in American folk art was kindled during his many trips to new England with his wife. Making his living in commercial art Wysocki created his primitivist style images in his spare time. Receiving acclaim for his non commercial pieces, he eventually switched over to creating them full time and spent the rest of his life pursuing his actual passion. He died in 2002 in Joshua tree, California.
