Born in the Chicago area, Steven Stroud studied painting at Drake University and The Art Center College of Design. He worked as an illustrator for 25 years, creating art for various novels including those of Isaac Asimov, Clive Cussler, Stephen King, and more. Stroud served as president of the Society of Illustrators and his work was featured in The Illustrator in America by Walter Reed. His work is included in the collections of The Department of Defense, Hyatt Hotels, Omega Engineering, UPS and the Florence Griswold Museum.
