An three-quarter-length oil portrait of a stately gentleman in the English School style. The subject may possibly depict English architect Sir John Soane, RA FSA FRS (1753 – 1837). Lawrence painted an older portrait of Soane in a 1828 oil held in the collection of the Sir John Soane Museum, London.
