An oil painting on canvas depicting a half-lentgh portrait of a Georgian lady. The work is composed in the style of Thomas Gainsborough, RA FRSA. The plaque misidentifies the sitter as Elizabeth Rannie, Viscountess Melville (1751 – 1843), wife of Henry Dundas.

Condition

- canvas has been trimmed and relined; extensive inpainting; uneven varnish; craquelure across painting surface; scattered areas of paint loss, most notably to lower right and to canvas edges; major cracking to frame molding; accretion and areas of finish loss to frame.
