Untitled (Italian Renaissance style portrait possibly of Sandro Boticelli)
Oil painting on wood panel
An early Italian Renaissance style oil portrait on panel in the manner of Filippino Lippi (Florence, 1457 – 1504). The work features the subject’s identification to the upper edge, reading “Sandro Dominicvs.” The painting may possibly depict a young Sandro Botticelli (Florence, 1445 – 1510). Botticelli apprenticed under Fra Filippo Lippi (Florence, 1406 – 1469) also known as Lippo Lippi. The painter may have confused the two artists named Lippi when producing this painting.
