Untitled (seated portrait), early 19th century
Oil painting on canvas mounted to board
Unsigned
An half-length portrait oil painting on canvas of a late Georgian lady, dating to the early 19th century. The frame plaque attributes the painting to Sir William Beechey (England, 1753 – 1839) and the subject as Lady Isabella Sinclair, daughter of William, 10th Earl of Caithness. However, the work bears more resemblance to a portrait of Lady Isabella Sinclair by Sir Henry Raeburn. Nevertheless, the attribution remains unsubstantiated.
Condition
- canvas has been strip lined and mounted to board; scattered inpainting, most notably to collar bone and ruffle on right side; craquelure across painting surface; light scattered accretion; cracking to frame molding; minor wear to frame finish.
Dimensions
- measures frame; visible image measures 24" W x 29" H.
