Antonio Gisbert was a 19th century painter from the Spanish Eclectic School, influenced by both the realist and romantic styles of the time. He studied under José de Madrazo at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. He went on to become the director of the Museo del Prado in Madrid from 1868 until 1873, before resigning in opposition to the new First Spanish Republic and then permanently settling in Paris.

- vertical scratch with paint loss to lower half of left center; scattered paint loss, most notably to upper right; craquelure across painting surface; scattered accretion; areas of loss, chips, cracks, accretion and finish loss to frame.
