1584 Indenture Signed by William Cecil, Queen Elizabeth I Treasurer

Item Details

Cecil William, first Baron Burghley Royal Minister, Lord Treasurer and member of the Court of Wards 1520/21-98, chief advisor and friend of Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign, became Secretary of State twice and Lord High Treasurer from 1572. Three years after he signed this indenture in 1587, he persuaded Elizabeth to execute Mary Queen of Scots of which Elizabeth never fully forgave him.
