This whale shark was caught by Captain Charles Thompson of Miami, in 1912 in the Florida Keys. There are varying reports of the length of the fish, ranging from 38 – 45 feet long, and weighing about 30,000 pounds. It took about 39 hours to reel him in. The fish was stuffed and mounted to a railroad car, as a traveling exhibition, until it was destroyed in a fire in 1922.

- creasing across print; abrasions with surface loss to lower portion; scratches, stains, accretion throughout; nicks and wear to frame finish.
