Hugo August Bernhard Breul, known for painting portraits, figures, genre, and outdoor scenes, was born in Saalfeld, Germany in 1854, and immigrated to the United States in 1872. He studied at the the Academy of Design and the Art Students League in New York, a well as the Royal Academy of Art in Munich. He was a member of the Providence Art Club and the Providence Watercolor Society, and his works reside in many prominent Rhode Island collections including Brown University, The Rhode Island State House, The Rhode Island School of Design, The Providence Art Club and more.
