Gianni Cilfone was born in Foggia, Italy in 1908, and immigrated to the United States with his parents at the age of five. He first studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago, and then went on to study independently with Hugh Breckenridge, John F. Carlson and others. Known for his landscape paintings, he worked across the Eastern half of the United States, active in the Hoosier Salon in Indiana, the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, Massachusetts, the Chicago Galleries Association and the Association of Chicago Painters and Sculptors, and was a member of the Salmagundi Club in New York.
