Renowned Abstract Expressionist Robert Motherwell was a member of the New York School, alongside Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, and Philip Guston. He studied painting at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, then received a B.A. in Philosophy at Stanford University. He continued his art education at Harvard University and Columbia University under the famed art historian Meyer Shapiro. Motherwell’s work has been exhibited and collected by countless institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY), the Guggenheim Museum (New York, NY), the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, MN), the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington, D.C.), and the Tate Modern (London), among many others.
