David Davidovich Burliuk is renowned as the “father of Futurism,” and a major contributor to Modern Art in the early part of the 20th century. Born in 1882 near the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, Burliuk studied in Odessa and Kazan, at the Munich Royal Academy of Arts, and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His work is a mix of Fauvist, Cubist, and Futurist styles, which he combined with his interest in nature and a love of Ukrainian folklore.
