Emmett John Fritz, born in 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri, studied art at the Pratt Institute in New York. He painted landscapes in New England and spent a brief time working with Norman Rockwell as an illustrator before settling in Florida in 1950. There he became an influential member of the artistic community of St. Augustine, where he captured scenes of everyday life and the charming architecture of the city in watercolor, and helped advance a developing Florida School of art.

- some scratches and small perforations to the wooden frame; paper covering the frame to the verso torn in various places.
