Marco Antonio Gomez “Tony” was born in Durango, Mexico as the son of a noted portrait painter. He moved to the United States as a young child, growing up in Arizona where he developed a fascination for the Native American peoples and culture. He moved to Los Angeles as a young artist and attended the Chouinard School of Art. In 1941, he joined the military and became the artist for the 433rd fighter squadron in WWII. He spent the remainder of his life in Southern California drawing inspiration from the landscapes and subjects there.

- protrusion to canvas to lower left corner; scattered areas of craquelure and tiny spots of paint loss; nicks and finish wear to frame.
