Pablo Palazuelo was a Spanish artist known for his painting and sculpture work, which often play with textures, dimensions, and geometric abstractions. Palazuelo began his career studying architecture in Madrid and moved to Oxford, England to attend the School of Arts and Crafts before returning to Spain to serve as a pilot during the Spanish Civil War. Following his service, Palazuelo returned to art, studying under Daniel Vázquez Díaz in Madrid. In 1948, aided by a French government grant, he moved to Paris, where he struck up a relationship with Galerie Maeght and its associated artists. Over his career, Palazuelo achieved international acclaim and received many prestigious awards, including the Carnegie Prize in 1958 from Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art, the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes from the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1982, as well as Spain’s National Award for Plastic Arts in 1999. His artwork has been exhibited in many prominent international galleries and museums, such as Galerie Maeght in Paris, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, and the Museu d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona.
