Born into a family with a long history of artists, Peter Busa began his early artistic training with his father, working on religious commissions for various institutions throughout Pittsburgh as painter and muralist. He later enrolled in Carnegie Institute of Technology to study architecture, but realized he wanted to major in fine art under the tutelage of artist and professor Raymond Simboli. He soon moved to New York to attend the Art Students League, studying with Thomas Benton. While there, he met Jackson Pollock and closely befriended Arshile Gorky, who introduced him to Stuart Davis, the most influential figure of his artistic development. Busa’s works are represented in the collections of numerous prestigious institutions, including Chrysler Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Kresge Art Museum, National Museum of American Art-Smithsonian, and The University of Michigan Museum of Art, among many others.
