James Yoko is known as a versatile artist, whose work ranges from realist to abstract expressionist. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and in 1938 received a scholarship that allowed him to study at the School of The Dayton Art Institute. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts, and went on to study with John King.Though his work was widely exhibited across the country, he maintained close ties with The Dayton Art Institute, becoming an instructor there and eventually donating over 700 of his paintings to the institution.
