Born in New York City to a family of Russian immigrants, Anna Meltzer was admitted early to Cooper Union Art School on accord of her artistic talent, before training at The Art Students League. She founded the Anna E. Meltzer School of Art in 1940 and her students organized the Anna E. Meltzer Art Society. She was the recipient of many awards and exhibited her work in many one-woman shows throughout her lifetime. Her work is represented in the collections of many prestigious institutions, including Brooklyn Museum, Georgia Museum of Fine Arts, and Phoenix Museum of Fine Arts.
