Hagoita are used during the Japanese New Year to play hanetsuki, a game similar to badminton without a net. In the Edo period, they were often decorated with dimensional depictions of kabuki actors like this item, and today they can feature anime characters and contemporary celebrities.

- minor tear in fabric, dust overall, handle has worn fabric overall; wooden corners of paddle chipped.
