Born in 1879, Benjamin Cory Kilvert studied painting at the Art Students’ League in New York City under Robert Henri (American, 1865-1929). He worked in oil paint and tempera before working exclusively in watercolors for his landscapes. Kilvert began creating illustrations, which appeared in books and magazines from circa 1902 to 1935. He was also a member of The American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club and the Dutch Treat Club. One painting of his is in the collection of the Farnsworth Museum and his work has been collected by various private and public collections.
