Harry Vincent was a self-taught artist, born in Chicago. Little is known about his early life, but he found his way to Cape Ann, Massachusetts where he often enjoyed accompanying the local fishermen out to sea so he could study the ocean more closely. He was the first president of the renowned Rockport Art Colony which boasts the title as America’s oldest artist colony. Known for his impressionistic-style harbor scenes and marine paintings, he exhibited his work at the National Academy of Design, the Salmagundi Club, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
