Robert William Wood was a well-known landscape painter born in Kent, England, where he trained at the South Kensington School of Art. Wood served in the Royal Army before emigrating in 1910 to the United States, where he immersed himself in the California Plein-Air and American Impressionism movements. He traveled extensively throughout the country painting colorful, expressive landscapes that captured the interest of the public. His works were widely reproduced by a number of publishers, making Robert William Wood a household name in the United States. He was represented throughout his career by galleries in Laguna Beach, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Cleveland. He produced more than 5,000 works during his career, and is held in numerous private and public collections.

- yellowing to varnish layer; craquelure throughout paint; minor abrasions to paint surface; stains to fabric frame liner; scratch to brass placard; accretion throughout surfaces; edge wear with finish loss and chips to frame molding.
