John William Evans was a noted wood engraver of the late 19th and early 20th century. Born in Brooklyn, Evans studied under engraver P.R.B. Pierson. He exhibited at the Chicago Exposition in 1893, the Paris Exposition in 1900, and across Europe and the United States. His work can be found in the collections of the Harvard Art Museum, New York Public Library, the Carnegie Institute, and the Brooklyn Institute of Art and Science.
