Richard Friedburg was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Antioch college in 1965, before going on to Yale University where he graduated with an M.F.A. in 1968. He moved to New York the same year, where he taught Fine Arts at Hunter College while also creating sculptures. He had his first one man show at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in 1969, and has since shown in galleries across the United States and Europe. Friedburg has also taught at the California Institute of the Arts and at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He continues to live and work in upstate New York.
