Born in Hollywood, California, Alison Van Pelt had a liberal upbringing in the 1960s and 70s centered around the arts, yoga, and Eastern philosophies. She studied art at University of California at Los Angeles; Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California; Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, and abroad at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Van Pelt’s work is included in the collections of many prestigious institutions, including the Jumex Foundation in Mexico City; the Armand Hammer Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach, California; Fresno Art Museum, Fresno, California; the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Her work is also included in numerous private collections, notably including the the Estate of Frank Zappa; the Estate of Diana, Princess of Wales; and singer Sting and his wife Trudie Styler, among many others.
