Mac (McCauley) Conner attended International Correspondence School to learn illustration before entering Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art to further his studies. Conner became known for his dramatic perspectives and patterning. Among his recognizable stylizations was his bold use of color-blocking and idealizations of feminine beauty. He even became one of the youngest artists to have his art featured on the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. Conner’s illustrations continued to grace the covers of The Saturday Evening Post as well as other magazines including Redbook, Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Woman’s Day, and Collier’s to name a few. He even held advertising accounts with United Airlines, U.S. Army Recruiting, General Motors, and Greyhound Lines. Eventually his illustrations were sought after for the covers of paperback novels and even children’s books.
