Neal Di Teresa was born and raised in New York, and then earned his Bachelor of Arts from the Pratt Institute in New York before going on to receive a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He eventually settled in Berea, Kentucky where he was a professor at Berea College. There he found inspiration in the natural landscape, so different than the manmade urban environment of his youth, and strove to emulate it’s simplicity in his work . Di Teresa worked in a variety of media including paint, cast paper, woodcuts, drawing and even puppetry, serving as the director of the Summer Puppetry Caravan for Appalachia for many years. His work resides in numerous private and public collections, including the Charleston Museum of Art in West Virginia.
