Francis Henry Richardson was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He studied to become a draftsman and architect in his early life before deciding to pursue painting as a career. Richardson studied with Alice Knowlton and William Morris Hunt in Boston before sailing to Paris to continue his art education at the Academie Julian. His oeuvre included watercolor, oil paintings, and pastels of New England landscapes and portraiture. Richardson’s work is collected in various public and private collections, including a permanent exhibit at the Ipswich Historical Museum.
