Queen Isabella I Manuscript Document Signed Order, Early 16th Century

A manuscript document signed order by Queen Isabella I (1454 – 1504) to her chamberlain Sancho de Peredes. Queen Isabella requisitions payment of 1,500 maravedis to Martin de Cepuco. This order intendeds to assist in the purchase of a donkey for travel. The document bears counter-signature of the queen’s secretary Gaspar de Trizio. It is accompanied in frame by portrait engraving titled ISABELLA., after Thomas Sully (Engraved by J. Cheney; Printed by Butler & Long).
Queen Isabella of Spain reigned from 1474 until her death in 1504. Under her reign, Spain prospered with a low crime rate and a low debt left by the previous ruler. She financed the voyage of Christopher Columbus that took place in 1492. Her daughter Catherine married Henry VIII of England.
