Neith Nevelson, the great granddaughter of iconic 20th century sculptor Louise Nevelson (New York/Russian Federation, 1899 – 1988), is best known for her gestural, expressionist paintings of horses, female nudes, and faces. She was born in New York in 1946 and spent her childhood between New York and Florence, Italy, and as a teenager lived at her grandmother’s studio. She studied briefly at The Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence before being expelled for her resistance to the traditional curriculum. Nevelson eventually settled in Coconut Grove, Florida, where despite her turbulent life, she continues to sell paintings, though her last gallery exhibit titled Neith Nevelson: In the Middle of the Night was in 1994.
