An intaglio print by renowned Assemblage artist Robert Rauschenberg, titled Etching IV from the artist’s Glacial Decoy series. Imagery for this series was derived from the artist’s photographs taken in and around Fort Myers, Florida, which he later projected as stage décor for a performance of the same name by the Trisha Brown Dance Company. In 1970, Trisha Brown was known for organizing dance performances in places where dances were not traditionally performed. She asked Rauschenberg to create sets and costumes for her performances, which began a 16-year collaboration between herself and Rauschenberg. Created in 1979, this work is signed and dated along the lower edge.

Rauschenberg was a “Neo-Dada” Abstract Expressionist who is most well known for his mixed media and found object works. After service in the U.S. Navy, Rauschenberg studied art at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Académie Julian in Paris, and Black Mountain College. In the mid-1950s he began working on his self-coined “Combines”, works which combined both painting and sculpture. Working across a variety of mediums in his career, Rauschenberg would later develop works in serigraphs, textiles, photography, and performance. His early works served as a precursor to the American Pop Art movement. Rauschenberg’s works can be found in a variety of institutions, including The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, and more.

- foxing to upper right margin, with smaller marks throughout margins of sheet; edge wear to paper; sheet tends to curl from prior rolled storage; slight toning to verso where images have ghosted through.
